LES MAISONS MAGIQUES
(churuatas)

Churuatas are traditional indigenous huts commonly found in Venezuela, particularly among the Piaroa, Pemon, and Yanomami peoples of the Amazon and Orinoco regions. These structures are characterized by their circular or oval shape and conical thatched roofs made from palm leaves or other natural materials. They are used as communal gathering spaces, homes, or ceremonial areas.

Churuatas are an important part of indigenous architecture, reflecting a deep connection to nature and sustainable building practices.

We are confronted with abstract circular forms that reference a specific cultural object rich in meaning. This is expressed through elements of abstract art: geometry, composition, color, texture, tonal scale, among others. The allusion to an aspect of indigenous architecture is formally defined through these elements and, at the same time, in a certain way, the artist's intention is also expressed in the urgent call to action: not to neglect our original past or nature.
